A bipartisan bill to help protect youth athletes with concussions was signed into law on March 29th, 2011 by Governor John Hickenlooper. Senate Bill 40 named the "Jake Snakenberg Youth Concussion Act" in honor of a past Arapahoe Youth League Player who died as a result of multiple concussions, helps protect youth athletes. The AYL is proud of this bill and Jake will be forever remembered in our league.
So, from this day forward it is a mandate that all coaches are required to participate and verify that they have adequate met the requirement of attending concussion training. This training can be attended online, for free by going to http://www.nfhslearn.com/electiveDetail.aspx?courseID=15000. Upon successful completion of this training, you will be given the opportunity to print out a certificate of participation. This is mandatory to be a coach in our league.
Thank you for your cooperation and to the Health One medical community for their part in emphasizing its importance. Also a special thanks to Kelli Jantz and Jake Snakenberg's entire family for enduring such a loss in such an amazing way. Jake's legacy lives forever!!
Sincerely,
Lance Vieira
